(Yicai Global) Oct. 10 -- SenseTime Group, a leading Chinese artificial intelligence unicorn, has teamed up with Japanese shipping giant Mitsui OSK Lines to develop ship surveillance systems.
SenseTime and MOL have already tested the technology with Nippon Maru cruise ship to monitor traffic amid poor visibility at night in order to avoid a collision, the Beijing-based firm said in a statement today on its WeChat account.
Before this, SenseTime has partnered with Japan's Honda Motor to develop self-driving vehicles.
SenseTime will continue to develop customized product solutions for customers and promote China's AI technologies to serve more global users, the firm added.
SenseTime was founded in 2014 by Tang Xiao'ou, a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Japan's Softbank Vision Fund was the sole participant in the company's latest USD1 billion D round of funding in September 2018, raising its valuation to USD6 billion.
