(Yicai Global) Dec. 2 -- China’s mainland stock markets closed in a messy heap this afternoon as mini light-emitting diodes and degradable plastic shares outstripped their peers, over half of whom lost ground.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.07 percent lower at 3,449.38, while the Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.22 percent to 13,961.58. The ChiNext, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, dropped 0.57 percent to 2,682.97.

Shares of over half of listed firms slipped. Carmakers, electronics manufacturers and those engaged in textiles and clothing as well as non-ferrous metals slumped the most.

Household appliance makers, mining firms and property developers were also gainers

Mini LED shares were borne aloft by two pundits’ reports crying them up today, while degradable plastics rose on China’s looming ban on single-use plastics that kicked in in parts of China on Dec. 1 and which will take full effect nationwide by next year’s end.
