China’s Shouhang High-Tech Soars on Bid to Build Two 100 MW Solar Power Plants in Botswana China’s Shouhang High-Tech Soars on Bid to Build Two 100 MW Solar Power Plants in Botswana

(Yicai Global) March 24 -- Shares in Shouhang High-Tech Energy surged 10.15 percent today after the Chinese solar power plant developer announced that it will take part in an international tender to construct two 100-megawatt photovoltaic power stations in Botswana.

Beijing-based Shouhang High-Tech’s share price [SHE:002665] closed at CNY2.93 (USD0.45).

Shouhang High-Tech will join a consortium led by TBEA, a Chinese producer of high-end power transformers as well as new materials for renewable energies, to bid for the concentrated solar power project, the firm said today, without giving any details of pricing or the timeline.

Shouhang High-Tech will provide all technical data relevant to the tender, it said. While Changji, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region-based TBEA will be responsible for securing the funding on terms acceptable to both the Botswana and Chinese governments.

The company is an expert in concentrated solar power systems which use mirrors or lenses to focus a large area of sunlight onto a receiver. It recently completed a 100 MW project in Dunhuang, northeastern Gansu province. Some 12,000 reflectors reflect the sunlight onto a 260-meter-tall heat-absorbing tower that uses molten salt to convert solar energy into thermal energy, which then produces a stable and steady output of electrical energy.
