China Signs Air Transport Pacts With 62 Belt and Road Countries China Signs Air Transport Pacts With 62 Belt and Road Countries

(Yicai Global) Aug. 13 -- China has to date signed bilateral intergovernmental air transport accords with 125 countries and regions, 62 of which lie along the Belt and Road, the country's civil aviation administration announced at an Aug. 10 press briefing in Beijing, China News Service reported.

The country also signed the first regional air transport agreement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and held bilateral aviation conferences and expanded freedoms of the air -- rights to enter and land in each other's airspace -- with Russia, Armenia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Israel, Mongolia, Malaysia and Egypt and other countries straddling the route.

The Belt and Road initiative to resurrect China's ancient trade corridors comprises the Maritime Silk Road that extends across the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean and the overland Silk Road Economic Belt that traverses Eurasia.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China will support interconnection and intercommunication and facilitate trade and cultural exchanges by exporting Chinese airports' operation and management as well as as air traffic control standards, products and services to countries alongside the route, said Zhang Qing, deputy inspector of CAAC's planning office.

China has direct air routes with 45 countries alongside the route with around 5,100 flights per week. CAAC also signed documents to cement civil aviation cooperation with the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, New Zealand and Australia.
