(Yicai Global) Feb. 4 -- Chinese stock markets managed to wind up the morning session above yesterday's close despite a rough start to the day, with the growth stock-heavy ChiNext leading the way as the markets claw back from the impact of the novel coronavirus from Wuhan.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed for lunch up 0.21 percent at 2,752.44, while the Shenzhen Component Index was up 1.74 percent at 9,949.94. Both opened more than 2 percent down following large losses yesterday, the first day China's markets re-opened following the extended Chinese New Year holiday and the international outbreak of the coronavirus.

The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, soared 3.69 percent in the early session to 1,862, after opening 0.54 percent lower.
