(Yicai Global) Oct. 09 -- China's stock markets made a strong start after the week-long National Day holiday. The Shanghai Composite Index opened above 3400 points and hit a new high of 22 months on Monday.

The Shanghai Composite Index surged 1.62 percent to 3,403.25 points at the open, and then pulled back to 3380 points at 10:00 a.m.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 1,1248.35 points, up 1.45 percent.

The Growth Enterprise Index rose up 1.23 percent to 1,889.89 points.

The stocks of automobile manufacturers soared 4.9 percent, inspired by the optimistic sentiment of the market.
