(Yicai Global) Dec. 18 -- China cut its holdings of United States Treasury bonds for the fifth straight month in October, leaving the US's largest creditor with its lowest Treasury balance since May 2017.

The Asian nation slashed its holdings by USD12.5 billion to USD1.14 trillion, according to US Treasury Department data published yesterday (local time).

Japan, the second-biggest owner of US Treasuries, also reduced its holdings for the third straight month, ditching USD9.5 billion to leave it with USD1.02 trillion -- a seven year low, according to state-backed Chinese news site The Paper.
