(Yicai Global) June 21 --  China's Vice Premier Liu He will meet with a senior European Union delegation in Beijing on Monday to support globalization amid a brewing US-China trade tiff.

Liu and Vice-President of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen will jointly preside over the scheduled EU-China High-level Economic Dialogue to discuss the theme of "promoting globalization, deepening and expanding China-EU cooperation," China's commerce ministry said in a press conference today.

The EU-China High-level Economic Dialogue, the seventh of its kind, is one of the several regular meetings between the two major trade entities, during which they can discuss trade policies. The next China-EU summit likely to be held in July in China.

On Monday, the parties will discuss issues such as global economic governance, trade and investment, innovation-driven development, and connectivity, and send signals that they oppose unilateralism and protectionism and support multilateral trade system, commerce ministry's spokesperson Gao Feng said.

One of the topics will surely be China's escalating trade spat with the US and the potential impact on Europe. Financial Times suggested that if less Chinese products end up in the North American country, some of them could be sold in the EU, lowering consumer prices and making it harder for local producers to compete.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.
