China's Young Workers Are the Most Concerned About Holiday Overtime, Baidu Says China's Young Workers Are the Most Concerned About Holiday Overtime, Baidu Says

(Yicai Global) Jan. 21 -- People born during the 1990s are conducting the most online searches about working overtime during the Chinese New Year, according to data from Baidu.

These workers made up 80 percent of all such searches, China's largest search firm said in a report published yesterday. They also made up 66 percent of all job-hunting searches, compared with just 9 percent for those born in the 1980s.

The most popular products among 90s-born searchers were electronics, like game consoles and smart handheld devices. Those born in the 70s were more interested in cigarettes, alcohol, candy, tea, fresh food, health products, while those born in the 80s spent most time searching for fresh food, smart home accessories and clothing.

Searches for videos, games, comics and red envelopes, wads of digital or real cash known as hongbao, have all become increasingly popular around the Chinese New Year for the past five years, according to the report.

Baidu also revealed that many people were searching for tips on buying travel tickets for the holiday period, during which the National Development and Reform Committee predicts 3 billion trips to take place, as well as apps and mini programs for buying tickets.
