China's Yuan Greatly Weakens Against US Dollar China's Yuan Greatly Weakens Against US Dollar

(Yicai Global) Nov. 4 -- The yuan depreciated significantly against the US dollar as safe haven-seeking capital flow pushed the value of the greenback to a strong rebound today.

The yuan's onshore spot rate softened 0.57 percent to 6.7138 from yesterday's closing price at 3.40 p.m. The offshore rate was 6.7340, down 0.69 percent from the close in New York yesterday.

Onshore yuan traded as weak as 6.7490 earlier today, its limpest level since Oct. 12.

The People's Bank of China fixed the yuan's central parity rate at 6.6771 today. Daily spot rates may swing 2 percent above or below its figure.

The yuan’s latest weakening trend came as the US Dollar Index bounced back today amid lingering uncertainty as to the US presidential election result even after hours have passed since the close of polling stations.
