(Yicai Global) May 26 -- The Chinese yuan today depreciated to the weakest point against the US dollar since last September as investors continue putting their money into safe-haven assets amid the pandemic.

The yuan hit 7.1584 intraday, the softest since Sept. 4, 2019, quickly approaching 7.1842 which would be the weakest since Sept. 3. Before that, such low was touched in early 2008.

The People's Bank of China strengthened the yuan's central parity rate to 7.1092 this morning and spot rates may swing 2 percent above or below this figure.
