China’s Cosmetics Market Exceeds USD159 Billion in 2025 China’s Cosmetics Market Exceeds USD159 Billion in 2025

(Yicai) March 24 -- The Chinese cosmetics market surpassed CNY1.1 trillion (USD159.8 billion) last year, achieving a growth of 2.8 percent from a year earlier, according to the latest official data.

Domestic cosmetics products seized nearly 60 percent of the Chinese market in 2025, according to data released at the 2026 National Cosmetics Supervision and Administration Work Conference today, China Central Television reported.

Chinese cosmetics exports maintained a high-speed growth trend for several consecutive years, with the total export value up 9.2 percent to USD7.8 billion last year from 2024.

Since the implementation of the Regulations on Supervision and Administration of Cosmetics in 2021, China's management of new cosmetics ingredients has shifted from registration-only to registration plus filing, prompting an explosive rise in new ingredients, said Li Yunfeng, deputy director of the National Medical Products Administration's department of cosmetics regulation.

Last year, the NMPA approved the registration of two new cosmetic ingredients and added 169 new filed ingredients, including 150 domestic and 19 imported ones, up nearly 88 percent from the year before.

China's cosmetics regulation will focus on children's cosmetics, special cosmetics, and products claiming to have anti-aging, soothing, and acne-removing effects this year, according to an NMPA official.
