(Yicai) Jan. 22 -- Shares of Dongfeng Motor Group jumped by the exchange-imposed daily trading limit after the Chinese automaker said its electric vehicle brand Voyah reached a cooperation agreement with Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies.

Dongfeng [SHA: 600006] was trading up 10 percent at CNY5.89 (82 US cents) as of 1.55 p.m. in Shanghai today.

Voyah and Huawei will give full play to their respective advantages and focus on customer needs to build partnership modes and advance smart technologies’ large-scale commercial applications, Wuhan-based Dongfeng announced on WeChat today.

Launched in 2020, Voyah will cooperate with Huawei under the Huawei Inside partnership model, Yicai learned from Dongfeng.

Huawei has three approaches when partnering with carmakers: vertical parts supplier, intelligent systems provider through Huawei Inside, and full-set solutions provider via the Huawei Smart Selection business model. The third has been the most successful, while the first two have yet to achieve significant commercial results.

Seres Group and Chery Automobile are the two Chinese carmakers cooperating with Huawei under the Huawei Smart Selection model. Their joint brands are Aito and Luxeed, respectively. Meanwhile, Changan Automobile’s EV brand Avatr is the only one partnering with Huawei under the Huawei Inside model.

Voyah sold 50,550 units last year, up 160 percent from the year before, according to official data.
