China’s Lenovo Releases Over 10 AI-Powered PCs at CES 2024 China’s Lenovo Releases Over 10 AI-Powered PCs at CES 2024

(Yicai) Jan. 11 -- Chinese personal computer giant Lenovo released more than 10 artificial intelligence-enabled PC products at the International Consumer Electronics Show, which is held in Las Vegas between Jan. 9 and tomorrow.

The new AI-powered PCs include creator laptop Yoga Pro 9i Gen 9, the ThinkBook Plus G5 Hybrid, which can seamlessly switch between Windows 11 and Android, business laptop ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12, and ultra small form factor desktop ThinkCentre neo Ultra.

The newly-released PCs have efficient computing power that, combined with a personal large language model, can provide customized services in general scenarios while ensuring data and privacy security, Lenovo said.

The AI-enabled PC products on the market now can only be called “AI-ready” as they have AI acceleration computing power in the hardware but do not really have the full set of characteristics of AI computers, Lenovo’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yang Yuanqing said at the CES.

For example, AI PCs can only achieve 10 trillion operations per second now, but in the future, they will ideally achieve 40 TopS to be considered true AI-generation PCs, Yang noted, adding that he expects true AI PC products to be launched in the second half of this year.

AI still needs relatively strong computing and storage capabilities, and cloud manufacturers are expensive so that PCs will remain the best AI carrier for now, Yang explained. However, Lenovo should pay attention to other types of carriers being rivals in the future.

The demand for high-performance PCs, smartphones, and tablets surged last year with the booming popularity of AI-generated content, bringing new growth point opportunities for companies. In addition to Lenovo, also Dell, Samsung, and Intel, released AI-related products at the CES.

AI PC shipments will reach around 20 million units this year, according to a report by Singaporean market research firm Canalys. About 60 percent of all computers will have AI processing capabilities by 2027.

Lenovo also unveiled the Lenovo AI Now, a set of personalized solutions that enable end-user interaction on the keyboard and through natural language. The temporarily named Lenovo AI Now Personal Assistant delivers personalized interactive experiences based on users’ own device knowledge base.
