(Yicai) June 4 -- NavInfo, a Chinese supplier of digital mapping services, and Alibaba Group Holdings' cloud computing arm have linked arms to provide smart technology and overseas market expansion services to automakers.

NavInfo and Alibaba Cloud plan to collaborate to expand their auto industry client numbers by leveraging their respective technological expertise and ecosystem resources, the Beijing-based firm announced late yesterday.

Potential cooperation projects include co-developing industry-specific cloud services for carmakers, enabling efficient utilization of industry data, and providing comprehensive big data governance services and overseas market expansion solutions for automakers, NavInfo noted.

In addition, NavInfo and Alibaba Cloud plan to jointly develop intelligent transportation solutions by leveraging the former's integrated smart cockpit hardware-software capabilities and the latter's Tongyi Qianwen large language models. The goal is to enhance smart cockpit and telematics technologies, delivering car owners a new human-machine interaction experience.

The tie-up aims to achieve technological and resource synergy, expand business growth opportunities in the automotive smart technology market across multiple dimensions, enhance product competitiveness, and a mutually beneficial partnership, NavInfo pointed out.

Established in 2002, Navinfo was China's first company to get an electronic navigation mapping license and has been focused on the high-precision map business since 2015. It is the country's leading premium digital map service provider with full-stack service capabilities spanning intelligent cloud and smart driving.

Shares of NavInfo [SHE: 002405] rose 1.4 percent to CNY8.54 (USD1.18) apiece as of 2 p.m. in Shenzhen today, after jumping by as much as 3.9 percent in the morning trading session.
