China’s Central Bank Stats Chief Moves to Senior Role at NBS(Yicai) Jan. 24 -- After seven years heading up the statistics and analysis department of China's central bank, Ruan Jianhong has joined the country’s statistics bureau as a deputy commissioner.
Ruan will be in charge of several departments at the National Bureau of Statistics, including those for international cooperation, population and employment, as well as household surveys, the NBS announced on its website recently. She will also be responsible for the survey offices in eight provincial-level regions, including Beijing and Shanghai.
Last December, Ruan briefly became known as a spokesperson for the People's Bank of China. Even before that, she regularly appeared at the PBOC's quarterly press conferences. From September 2016, she had led the central bank department in charge of collecting and analyzing key economic data and sharing information on the money supply.
Before managing that department, Ruan had worked in other roles at the PBOC for many years. During her time there, she also had a one-year stint as the deputy director of the Shandong arm of the National Development and Reform Commission.
