Chinese Airport Security Will Gradually Install Face Recognition System Chinese Airport Security Will Gradually Install Face Recognition System

(Yicai Global) Sept. 7 -- The automatic facial capture system  China's TravelSky Technology Limited [HK:0696] developed will be installed at domestic airports.

The system will replace the current manual identification work before security check stations, and will capture and identify visages automatically, Beijing News reported yesterday.

Passengers checking must provide identity cards and air tickets, and security staff take photos of passengers and compare these with identity card information. This manual identification will gradually be replaced by information systems, and domestic airport security check will transit to security checks using facial recognition.

The new-generation airport security check information management system on display at the recently-held Beijing Global Sister Airport President Forum consists of two cameras and a display, but with powerful internal functions. The system automatically captures passenger faces near security check stations. Passengers need only swipe their ID card, and the system will read their identity information and compare this with the facial information acquired. The recognition success rate is over 90 percent, but can be more than 98 percent in good lighting, and the system only takes about three seconds to complete the automatic comparison.

The information system also gives alerts of abnormal identity information in advance to relevant departments. If the comparison finds abnormal passengers, this triggers an automatic alarm.

The latest system is in use at three terminal buildings of Dalian airport in Liaoning province and Chongqing airport in southwest China. Airports in other parts of the country using security check information management systems will gradually receive replacement with the new system.

Beijing's new airport also plans to install an automatic facial motion tracking and recognition system.

TravelSky Technology is a Chinese state-owned enterprise and the dominant provider of information technology solutions to China's air travel and tourism industries.
