Chinese Apple Supplier TSMC Refutes GlobalFoundries's IP Infringement Claims Chinese Apple Supplier TSMC Refutes GlobalFoundries's IP Infringement Claims

(Yicai Global) Aug. 28 -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, one of the world's biggest semiconductor manufacturers, has refuted the allegations of US contract chipmaker GlobalFoundries after the latter sued the Chinese firm for intellectual property infringement.

"TSMC is in the process of reviewing the complaints filed by GlobalFoundries on August 26, but is confident that GlobalFoundries' allegations are baseless," the Hsinchu-headquartered company said in a statement on its website yesterday.

On Aug. 26, GlobalFoundries filed 25 complaints against TSMC in the US and Germany, alleging that TSMC violated more than a dozen patents of the California-based firm, as well as seeking to prevent imports of customers' products that contain such chips. The firm listed Apple, Qualcomm, Alphabet's Google, and Nvidia as some of TSMC's clients that could be affected.

"We will fight vigorously, using any and all options, to protect our proprietary technologies," TSMC said in the same statement. The company has more than 37,000 patents worldwide and a top 10 ranking for US patent grants for 3 consecutive years since 2016, it added.
