(Yicai Global) Aug. 15 -- Chinese developer Turing Shenshi Nanjing Technology has released a new mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to determine the authenticity of luxury bags, watches and other products.
The app, Baoxiaojian, bases its judgment on photographs of a product and is 95 percent accurate, The Paper reported today.
Baoxiaojian can identify bags from the likes of Louis Vuitton and Gucca, shoes by Nike Air Jordan and Patek Philippe watches using a reference bank containing hundreds of thousands of images, Turing Shenshi's Deputy General Manager Xu Yalun said.
"We aren't comparing the app against manual appraisers, who usually need the actual object for verification rather than using photos," he added.
Tang Pingzhong, a former postdoctoral computer science researcher at Carnegie Mellon University, founded Turing Shenshi last year and now researches artificial intelligence, economics and computation at Tsinghua University, one of China's most prestigious colleges.
