(Yicai Global) Sept. 27 -- Royole Corp., a global leader in the production of flexible displays, has secured USD560 million (CNY3.71 billion) in funds as part of its D-round financing, representing the largest investment received by the firm since its inception, reported ChinaFund, an affiliate of the country's state-run newspaper People's Daily.

The latest investment, made through an agreement with China CITIC Bank Corp. Ltd. [SHA:601998;HKG:0998], Agricultural Bank of China Ltd. [SHA:601288;HKG:1288], Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd. [SHA:601398;HKG:1398], Bank Of China Ltd. [SHA:601988;HKG:3988] and Ping An Bank Co. [SHE:000001], brings total D-round financing to USD800 million (CNY5.3 billion)

The firm will use the fund to undertake research and development, production and sales projects related to next-generation human-computer interaction systems and other electronic products, said Liu Zihong, the firm's chair.

Royole has ranked among the world's highest-valued unicorn companies since 2015, when its value reached USD1 billion. It was valued at over USD3 billion in October 2015, making it one of the fastest-growing tech unicorns worldwide.

A major producer of flexible displays and sensing devices, virtual reality and related smart products, the company offers three core technologies and product lines, including the world's thinnest flexible color display, new-generation electronic sensors and a new-generation smart device the Royole Moon.

It currently owns more than 1,300 core intellectual property rights in China and abroad, and its products are sold in over 20 countries and regions.

Royole started construction of a USD1.5-billion production facility for flexible displays in October 2015 in Shenzhen in southern China's Guangdong province. Upon completion, the plant will be capable of producing more than 50 million units a year.
