(Yicai Global) Jan. 25 -- China's mainland stock markets walked back some of their morning gains in the afternoon while liquor makers and agricultural firms were leading the markets.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed 0.48 percent higher at 3,624.24. The Shenzhen Component Index was at 15,710.19, up 0.52 percent. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, slid 0.09 percent to 3,355.24.

Several distillers hit the 10 percent limit up, including Luzhou Laojiao [SHE:000568], Gujing Distillery [SHE:000596] and Yanghe Brewery Joint-Stock [SHE:002304]. China's most valuable distiller Kweichow Moutai [SHA:600519] hit a new record high of CNY2,179.5 (USD336), after which it closed 4.6 percent up at CNY2,175.

Shares in the agricultural sector surged late in the afternoon, led by breeding firm Winall Hi-Tech Seed [SHE:300087], whose stock price rallied by 13.1 percent to CNY35.12 (USD5.40).
