(Yicai Global) Sept. 4 -- Beijing based fitness startup Misspao, which makes shared mini-gyms, is expanding quickly in China's economic powerhouse of Shanghai and has signed deals with 50 communities to install smart exercise pods, online news outlet 36kr reported.

The firm aims to increase the number to 800 by the end of the year.

Misspao unveiled an upgraded version of its mini-gyms in Shanghai last month, where local neighborhoods are generally bigger in size. It installed its first exercise pod in the city at a brand new apartment community on North Zhongshan Road, marking its first installation outside of the Chinese capital.

The company is also seeing strong growth in Beijing, where 300 communities have signed up over the past month. The firm will become the exclusive provider of such services for 90% of these.

The firm plans to add exercise bikes to its mini-gyms in the future, founder Bi Zhen said.

Misspao aims to develop new revenue streams from business advertising going forward, including service delivery, 3C (computer, communication and consumer electronics) and gaming products, Bi added. Once usage of the mini-gym's reaches a mature stage, the company will be able to take advantage of options for advertising.

Misspao boasts the largest financing in the shared mini-gym sector, following a recent financing round worth tens of millions of yuan.
