(Yicai Global) Dec. 26 -- Chinese stock markets on the mainland closed lower today despite rallies in sectors related to ultra-high voltage, smart grid and media.
The Shanghai Composite Index failed to rise above the 2,500-point mark, while closing at 2,498 points, 0.29 percent down. Trading volume was CNY9.4 billion (USD1.4 billion). The Shenzhen Composite Index closed 0.58 percent lower at 7,289.54 points, with a turnover of CNY13.7 billion (USD2.0 billion). The Growth Enterprise Market Index closed at 1,264.07 points, 0.74 percent down, with a CNY4.6 billion (USD6.7 million) worth of stocks changing hands.
Sectors including fifth-generation mobile networks, investment and distillers led the slump.
In Japan, the Nikkei-225 Index closed 0.89 point higher at 19,327.06. The benchmark fell below 19,000 shortly after opening. The Tokyo Stock Exchange Tokyo Price Index rose 1.12 percent to close at 1431.47.
