Chinese Shares Close Higher on New Infrastructure Initiatives

(Yicai Global) April 20 -- China’s stock market closed higher today after authorities announced the scale of government-backed new infrastructure construction and building shares got a fresh wind in their sails in consequence.

The upwelling extended throughout the day, with the Shanghai Composite Index ending at 2,852.55, up 0.50 percent, while the Shenzhen Component Index finished up 0.89 percent at 10,621.50. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, gained 1.12 percent to 2,043.44.

Shares in the engineering services sector led gainers with 4.37 percent average increases. The construction materials sector followed with 3.27 percent advances.
