(Yicai Global) July 28 -- China's mainland stock markets closed higher in the afternoon, led by the agriculture and liquor sectors, while trading volumes continued shrinking.

The Shanghai Composite Index climbed 0.71 percent to 3,227.96. The Shenzhen Component Index was at 13,147.35, up 1.31 percent. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, rose 1.32 percent to 2,666.52.

Several agriculture firms hit the 10 percent daily limit-up, including New Hope Dairy [SHE:002946] and Zhuangyuan Pasture [SHE:002910].

Meanwhile, the liquor sector soared over 3 percent, led by Xinghuacun Fen Wine Factory [SHA:600809].

Shanghai and Shenzhen markets' combined trading volumes slid 3 percent to CNY897.8 billion (USD128.1 billion) from yesterday, failing to break through the key level of CNY1 trillion for two straight days.
