Chinese Stocks Lose Ground in Morning

(Yicai Global) Oct. 18 -- Chinese mainland shares yielded gains in the morning as newly-released third-quarter economic data proved insufficient to spur active buying.
 

The Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.59 percent at 2,959.76 going into the lunch break, while the Shenzhen Component Index finished 0.43 percent lower at 9,603.88. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, closed up 0.06 percent at 1,659.24.
 

China's gross domestic product rose 6.2 percent on the year, according to official data the country's National Bureau of Statistics released today.
 

Third-quarter GDP climbed 6.0 percent from the same period last year, as against 6.2 percent in the second quarter and 6.4 percent in the first.
 

The Chinese government set the annual GDP growth target in a range from 6 to 6.5 percent in March. The country's GDP swelled 6.6 percent last year.
