(Yicai Global) Sept. 16 -- Only the ChiNext Price Index started the day up among China's major mainland stock indexes while battery manufacturers led the markets.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.08 percent lower at 3,293.17. The Nasdaq-like Star Market 50 Index, or Star 50, was down 0.09 percent at 1,363.32.

The Shenzhen Component Index started at 13,123.50, down 0.15 percent. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, gained 0.1 percent to 2,597.64.

The share price of BYD [SHE:002594] soared almost 5 percent to hit a historical high of CNY106.34 (USD15.70). Other peers followed its lead.
