(Yicai Global) Dec. 5 -- Most of Chinese major stock indexes declined in the afternoon as investors deepened their skepticism regarding the long-lasting effects of a trade truce that China and the US cut over the weekend.

The China-US trade talks were successful, the Chinese commerce ministry said in a statement this morning. "We are confident of the implementation," said a ministry spokesperson, adding that talks will resume. This helped to buoy the markets for the short-term in the morning session.

The Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.61 percent to close at 2649.81 points. The Shenzhen Component Index declined 0.32 percent to 7928.51 points. Only the ChiNext Price Index finished the trading day with a 0.22 percent increase to 1381.77 points.

Three major US market indexes all lost more than 3 percent yesterday, and the wave of diminishing investor confidence spread to Asia. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index feel 1.63 percent as of at 3.30 p.m. Japan's Nikkei Index closed 0.53 percent down, after tumbling 2.39 percent yesterday.
