(Yicai Global) Aug. 20 -- Chinese movie ticketing platform Maoyan Entertainment made money in the first half after last year’s devastating performance during the Covid-19 pandemic when all cinemas were shut.

Maoyan raked in CNY484 million (USD74.4 million) in profit during the six months ended June 30, the company said in its latest earnings report released yesterday. Last year it clocked losses of CNY431 million. Revenue soared nearly nine-fold from the same period last year to CNY1.8 billion (USD276.8 million).

All the films that Maoyan represented in the first half did very well, the Beijing-based firm said.

Online ticketing brought in CNY1.01 billion (USD155 million) in earnings, nine times more than the CNY104 million it earned a year earlier, according to the report. Revenue from advertising and other services jumped 50.8 percent to CNY126 million and that from entertainment content services soared over 400 times to CNY660 million.

Maoyan’s share price [HKG:1896] closed down 2.03 percent at HKD9.17 (USD1.18) today.
