(Yicai Global) Aug. 28 -- A Chinese trip-planning platform has recently come in for criticism after it mistakenly booked a hotel stay in Greece for a traveler bound for Russia. The company's customer services advised at the time that the tourist could take a taxi to get to their booked hotel.
Mafengwo has paid out compensation to the customers equal to the three-times their order in addition to another CNY80,000 (USD12,000) for the calculated taxi fee, the Beijing-based firm said in a statement.
The traveler stated through Weibo that he had no reservation information upon arriving at the Barbados hotel in Vladivostok, Russia. The platform had wrongly booked the Barbados hotel in Greece due to a system error.
