Chongqing's Mountaintop Wushan Airport to Open in Mid-Month Chongqing's Mountaintop Wushan Airport to Open in Mid-Month

(Yicai Global) Aug. 9 -- Known as the 'Cloud-Kissing Airport' of the Three Gorges, Chongqing Wushan Airport is expected to open its doors to passenger in the middle of this month, with routes connecting Wushan with the regional hub of Chongqing and the coastal city of Yantai the first available ones.

Located in the scenic Three Gorges Reservoir area in China's southwestern Sichuan province -- a must-see tourist spot amid the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River -- the airport is set atop a mountain.

With total investment of CNY1.64 billion (USD232.6 million), Wushan, which is designated as a feeder-line airport and is accessible by a variety of medium and small aircraft, was designed to throughput 280,000 tourists, 1,200 tons of goods and 3,333 planes each year.

The Airport's Departure Lounge seems itself poised to take off into the wild blue yonder.

The airport lies atop Wu (Wizard) Mountain along the spectacular Three Gorges of the Yangtze River.

Crew members pose in front the plane before a trial flight.

Full-dress rehearsals are underway for the delivery of travelers' luggage before formal operations commence.

Check-in procedures are also undergoing practice sessions in the run up to their official start.
