(Yicai Global) Nov. 4 – The media center for the first China International Import Expo opens today, with more than 4,100 registered journalists from home and abroad ready to cover the event.

Reporters from 630 media outlets are expected to cover the expo, which runs from Nov. 5 to Nov. 10. China aims to promote its further opening-up amid rising protectionism globally, said Xu Wei, a spokesperson at Shanghai Municipal Government, at a news briefing at the media center.

The media center, covering 13,000 square meters, is located in the first to third floors of a convention center office building. It has working areas, equipment rooms for broadcasting, TV and social media services, news conference rooms as well as catering and leisure service areas.

The public working area features some 500 seats and large LED screens and TVs that provide live transmission of events taking place at the expo as well as display information.

By downloading a specially designed mobile phone app, registered reporters can gain access to live broadcasts of the expo, receive official news notifications and learn about the media center and real-time nearby traffic conditions, according to the event organizer. Volunteers are also on hand to help journalists.
