(Yicai Global) June 12 -- China’s Dongfang Electric has penned a deal to supply equipment to a hydropower facility in Tanzania after striking similar agreements in Brazil and Ethiopia.

The Chengdu-based turbine maker will supply water turbine generators and supporting equipment to the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station, it said in a statement yesterday. The facility will house the largest set of hydro equipment by installed capacity ever exported by a Chinese firm.

Shares in Dongfang were up 3 percent at CNY9.28 (USD1.31) as of 2.35 p.m.

Dongfang’s agreement is with Egyptian firms Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, who are general contractors for the plant -- a projected developed by the Tanzanian government. The facility has over two gigawatts of installed capacity and will more than double the country’s total capacity upon its completion.

The deal follows supply deals Dongfang recently won for the 3.3 gigawatt Jirau hydroelectric project in Brazil and the nearly 1.9 gigawatt Gilgel Give III facility in Ethiopia. Dongfang also supplied for China’s Three Gorges Dam Hydropower Station and Baihetan Hydropower Station.
