Europe's Record Heatwave Drives Chinese Suppliers to Upgrade Local Strategies, Midea Exec Says Europe's Record Heatwave Drives Chinese Suppliers to Upgrade Local Strategies, Midea Exec Says

(Yicai) July 10 -- Chinese suppliers are upgrading their business strategies in Europe amid rigid demand from local customers due to the record-breaking heatwave across the continent, shifting to systematic temperature control solutions from cooling equipment, according to an executive at home appliance giant Midea Group.

"High temperatures have boosted consumer cooling demand in Europe's C-end market, while also lifting temperature control demand for industrial, commercial, and other B-end scenarios," an executive at Midea Building Technologies told Yicai.

Midea's business-to-business model in Europe mainly consists of two segments: integrated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning solutions for commercial buildings and dedicated temperature control schemes for industrial manufacturing plants and industrial parks, the executive noted.

The former segment delivers energy-saving renovation services for large buildings in Europe and matches energy-efficient facilities for newly built public buildings, with its clients including operators of hotels, luxury apartments, commercial complexes, office buildings, and sports venues, the executive said. The latter serves production workshops, warehousing, and logistics parks to resolve pain points such as reduced output, equipment failure, and failed temperature control caused by extreme heat, the person added.

Due to the scorching heatwaves sweeping Europe, local industrial and commercial entities have seen a rise in demand for enhanced cooling and temperature regulation capacity, which directly determines the stability of corporate production, the executive pointed out.

The severe challenges brought by the extreme climate crisis have drastically lifted Europe's reliance on coordinated industrial cooperation between China and Europe in the new energy sector, according to a recent article by Li Guiping, professor at Ningbo University's Business School and research fellow at its China-Central and Eastern Europe Economic and Trade Cooperation Institute.

Market demand driven by climate crises is pushing China-Europe supply chains to conduct in-depth interactions beyond traditional trade in goods and move toward joint ecological development, Li said. Cooperation between the two sides in green energy is therefore expected to become closer and more irreplaceable than ever before, she stressed.
