Export-Import Bank of China Has Funded 3,000 Km of Cambodian Roads Export-Import Bank of China Has Funded 3,000 Km of Cambodian Roads

(Yicai Global) Jan. 12 -- Export-Import Bank of China (EIBC) has financed Cambodia's construction of nearly 3,000 kilometers of roads, over 430,000 hectares of irrigation areas in water conservancy projects, and over 8,000 km of electricity transmission and transformation cables, thus greatly improving the country's infrastructure, state Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.

EIBC signed two agreements with Cambodia's economy and finance ministry. One is a loan for phase 2 of the 230-kilovolt electric transmission and transformation project of Cambodia's national power grid, while the other is a loan facility for its No. 3 road project.

The construction of phase 2 of the 230KV electric transmission and transformation project includes approximately 157 km of electric transmission lines, five new transformer substations, and the expansion of eight transformer substations. Upon completion of the project, Cambodia's 230-kv electricity transmission lines will be connected, its major power grid will be preliminarily formed, and the power supply for areas around Phnom Penh and in northeastern and western Cambodia will improve.

Cambodia's No. 3 road project lies in the southwestern part of the country, and involves about 135km roads, with the designed road speed 80 km/h. The project, which will facilitate traffic between Phnom Penh, Kampot and Sihanoukville, will be instrumental in improving Cambodia's southwestern road network.
