(Yicai Global) Oct. 20 -- The fifth Wuzhen Theatre Festival officially opened on Oct. 19 with the theme of luminosity.

Four of the festivals co-founders, Chen Xianghong, Huang Lei, Stan Lai and Meng Jinghui, the event's artistic director, Tian Qinxin, and the director of the opening play, Eugene Onegin Rimas Tuminas, opened the festival, taking place in China's Zhejiang province.

The 10-day event consists of four components: specially-invited plays, a competition for young theater artists, the Wuzhen Dialogues and an outdoor carnival.

The plays are split into five categories, classics revisited, female perspectives, multimedia production, physical theater and new voices. Some 24 plays will be performed by artists from 13 countries and regions around the world, with a total of 100 performances being staged.

The competition will display 18 shortlisted works from more than 300 applications submitted by young theater lovers from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao to exhibit talented youngsters. Their works adhere to a three word theme: moon, knife and umbrella.

The Wuzhen Dialogues includes five parts covering 24 events, including 12 forums, five workshops, three recitals, three summits and an exhibition.
