(Yicai Global) Nov. 10 -- The Guangdong government recently convened a round table conference of leading new-energy vehicle firms in the province's capital, Guangzhou, inviting senior executives from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV [NYSE:FCAU], Hyundai Motor Co. [KRX:005380] and other internationally renowned automakers to attend.

Guangdong, China's largest province by population and economic output, has exuberant demand for new-energy vehicles, Guangzhou Daily quoted Ma Xingrui, provincial governor, as saying. Guangdong provincial government has taken the new-energy vehicle sector as a pillar industry, and will create a world-class research, development and production base, he added.

Representatives from South China University of Technology and other research institutes joined the automotive executives to discuss industry development direction, new technologies and policy measures.

The government encourages more foreign companies to invest in Guangdong and take part in local industry development there, Ma added.

German manufacturer Siemens AG [ETR:SIE], South Korea's Samsung SDI Co. [KRX:006400] and other technology firms also attended the event.
