(Yicai Global) Oct. 23 -- Northern China's Hebei provincial government aims to bring in 800 high-tech enterprises and 10,000 technological small- to medium-sized enterprises in a multipronged effort to boost the development of the industry in the province, the Hebei Daily reported.

Hebei Science and Technology Department has compiled specialized documents and set up service institutions to streamline the application process for high-tech enterprises.

"We will also work with the taxation department to promote the implementation of preferential tax policies for high-tech firm," said an official at the Science and Technology Department. Some 52.5 percent (1,067) of firms in the province's high-tech sector enjoyed tax exemptions last year, amounting to CNY18.668 billion (USD2.83 billion) in total.

Technological SMEs in the province can also enjoy a preferential tax policy allowing a 175-percent pre-tax additional deduction for research and development expenses.

The province will provide up to CNY10 million (USD1.51 million) a year for up to five years to set up a key national laboratory for the sector.
