Hefei AI Industrial Park Opens, Is Expected to Output CNY100 Billion Hefei AI Industrial Park Opens, Is Expected to Output CNY100 Billion

(Yicai Global) March 5 -- Hefei Artificial Intelligence Industrial Park in Hefei High Tech Industrial Development Zone located southeast of Hefei, the capital of central China's Anhui province, was inaugurated yesterday.

The industrial park will form a sector cluster for speech intelligence, brain-like intelligence, quantum intelligence and Big Data intelligence by 2020, with an output value of CNY100 billion (USD15.77 billion), per the plan.

The area of the newly-opened industrial park is 3.33 square kilometers. It is based on the department of intelligence and informatics at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) -- which lies within the high-tech zone -- to build seven functional areas, including those for research and education, intelligent speech, chips, machine vision and others, Wang Jie, deputy director of the management committee at the high-tech zone said at an AI industry development conference held in Hefei yesterday, as China News Service reported.

The zone houses nearly 200 AI companies, including smart voice leader Iflytek Co. whose output value reached CNY50 billion last year. Iflytek has taken up more than an 80 percent market share of China's smart voice market, Luo Yunfeng, vice mayor of Hefei, said at the conference.

Iflytek is a high-tech enterpriser formed in 1999 based on USTC. Founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1958, USTC is one of the top science and engineering universities in China.

Hefei High Tech Zone, also known as China Speech Valley, was jointed built by Anhui's provincial government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The opening of the AI industrial park is a strategic upgrade to the zone.
