(Yicai Global) April 23 -- China's largest smartphone maker Huawei Technologies will not delay the release of its 5G folding mobile phone, the Mate X, until September, tech news portal Ifeng cited an insider as saying.

The Shenzhen-based company did not respond to requests for comment.

Reports circulating yesterday suggested that Huawei would push back the release of the Mate X three months from its planned June release due to a shortage of flexible screens from its supplier BOE Technology Group and recent complaints about rival Samsung's Galaxy Fold.

Samsung, the world's biggest phonemaker, sent its Galaxy fold to domestic and foreign media for reviews last week, who several found issues with the screen. The South Korean firm has since indefinitely postponed its release conference for the device in Shanghai tomorrow, citing the reason as being an issue with the event venue.
