(Yicai Global) Oct. 11 -- A technical director who worked at China's Huaxia Bank has pled guilty to hiding a Trojan virus in the lender's systems and illegally obtaining CNY7 million (USD1 million).
The man, surnamed Qin, worked at Huaxia's Beijing head office and abused his position to prevent the bank's server from recognizing when cash was withdrawn from other lenders' cash machines, legal news site Fawan reported. The defendant allegedly withdrew money more than 1,000 times.
The malicious program included three files and Qin implanted it into the systems twice. The first time enabled him to withdraw cash undetected until 11 p.m. and the second extended this to midnight.
The prosecutor hopes to pursue the matter in criminal court and charge Qin with duty encroachment and a jail sentence of between five and eight years.
