(Yicai Global) April 21 -- Hubei’s economic growth was the strongest among the 17 Chinese provinces that have so far released gross domestic product data for the first quarter of this year.

Hit hardest by the coronavirus outbreak last year, Hubei posted a 58.3 percent jump in first-quarter GDP from a year earlier, according to the provincial statistics bureau.

Hubei’s industrial production has fully recovered, fixed asset investment has picked up, and the consumer market remained resilient in the first quarter, the bureau said. The province’s tertiary industries had added value of CNY409.2 billion (USD63 billion), an increase of 88.9 percent from a year ago.

Hainan, Anhui, Chongqing and Jiangxi also recorded faster GDP growth than the national average of 18.3 percent.

The other 12 provinces, including Hunan and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, had slower-than-average growth, with Hunan logging the slowest pace at 15 percent.

Provinces with traditionally strong growth performance such as Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Zhejiang have yet to release their first-quarter GDP figures.

China’s GDP reached CNY24.93 trillion (USD3.84 trillion) in the three months ended March 31, the National Bureau of Statistics said on April 16.
