Ikea Recalls Travel Cups Suspected of Containing Too Much Plasticizer Ikea Recalls Travel Cups Suspected of Containing Too Much Plasticizer

(Yicai Global) Jan. 17 -- Ikea has issued a global recall notice for its Troligtvis travel cup after finding that the mugs may contain excessive levels of plasticizers.

The Swedish furniture giant urged customers to return such products to any Ikea store in a statement online on Jan. 15, offering a full refund.

Ikea has received test reports indicating that the Indian-made travel mugs, which have been on sale since October 2019, may contain a dangerous amount of dibutyl phyhalate, or DBP, it said.

DBP is a plasticizer commonly used to soften products but can be harmful to the human body in excessive amounts. Repeated contact may cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

The European Union has restricted use of DBP in children's toys since 1999, and the United States added it to a list of suspected teratogens, substances that can cause birth defects in embryos or fetuses, in 2006.
