(Yicai Global) Aug. 7 -- The Shanghai mobile nucleic acid detection shelter laboratory was officially delivered to Pudong International Airport today. It shaves two hours off sending samples to labs downtown.

In appearance, the laboratory is a standard shipping container. Its internal space is divided into three compartments: a reagent preparation room, sample processing room and nucleic acid detection room.

The lab meets the standards for enhanced biosafety level II laboratories and can test 200 samples a day and is likely to hike its testing capability to 1,500 persons a day in the future.

The lab is China’s first standard-container-sized movable protection level II plus nucleic acid testing lab. Shanghai Baoshan Pacific Container, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry under Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center and other institutions jointly built the lab.

The lab can go into operation charged with electricity, Xu Jinyong, general manager of Baoshan Pacific Container, said, noting the lab meets the technical standards for a biosafety level II laboratory and thus is safe though it is less than 30 square meters. The lab uses fifth-generation network and Internet of Things technologies for remote monitoring and has a one-click help function to protect staffers inside.
