(Yicai Global) March 9 -- Japanese secondhand goods giant Mercari will begin selling products in China through Taobao and Xianyu, after agreeing a cooperation deal with Alibaba Group Holding, 36Kr reported yesterday.

Founded in 2013, Mercari has already attracted a lot of Chinese buyers, who are showing growing interest in recycled goods. It has been trying to expand overseas, and signed a deal with Singapore-based Shopee last year to sell products in Taiwan.

Mercari reportedly accounts for over 70 percent of Japan’s online used products market, with as many as 2 billion items available on its platform as of last December. The Tokyo-based company has 17.55 million monthly active users and mainly sells inexpensive small items such as books, CDs and beauty products.
