(Yicai Global) Aug. 2 -- Leading Chinese online retailer JD.Com Inc. [NASDAQ:JD] has officially put its first unmanned logistics sorting center into operation in the Shanghai satellite city of Kunshan, internet media outlet All Weather TMT reported.

The facility features automated operations in all processes and possesses a maximum efficiency of up to four times higher than traditional methods. Sorting capacity at the center has reached 9,000 parcels per hour so far.

JD.com manages operations at the sorting center through an independently-developed distribution control system-based intelligent management system.

The DCS-based system consists of regulation and control units for automatic sorting machines, unmanned automatic guided vehicles for dispatching, and a radio frequency identification information management system. The dispatch system also handles carrying, vehicle safety, collision avoidance and execution of prioritized tasks.
