(Yicai Global) June 26 -- Big three mobile operator China United Network Communications, better known as China Unicom, has become JD.Com's first telecom partner for its brick-and-mortar convenience stores following the signing of a retail agreement.

The Beijing-based firm will promote its sim card and broadband services in-store at JD outlets as part of efforts to boost its user market share, telecoms news outlet CCTime reported.

JD will also tap China Unicom its operations capabilities, equity resources and big data analysis and plans to use them in-store as part of efforts to boost customer numbers at stores. Traditionally an e-commerce company, Beijing-based JD announced plans to expand aggressively into the offline convenience store sector last April. The company aims to open one million outlets nationwide within five years through a franchise system.

The e-commerce giant is also a shareholder in China Unicom after acquiring a 2.4 percent stake following the carrier's mixed ownership reform last year.
