JSTI Group Denies Designing Toppled Wuxi Flyover Span That Killed Three JSTI Group Denies Designing Toppled Wuxi Flyover Span That Killed Three

(Yicai Global) Oct. 11 -- A highway flyover in Wuxi, a lakeside city in China's southeastern Jiangsu province, was the scene of a deadly accident that claimed three lives and left two victims injured when one span of the dual structure fell onto its side yesterday.

The overpass' designer was Jsti Group, media reported. The company has now issued a clarifying statement denying any involvement in the structure's design.

The company's shares [SHE: 300284] closed up 1.70 percent this morning at CNY8.95 (USD1.26) on the statement.

A team of transportation safety experts from China's Ministry of Transport have deployed onsite to oversee the investigation, and the city has likewise scrambled its own squad of safety inspectors to the scene. The accident was caused by an overloaded transport vehicle, initial analysis indicates.

Nanjing-based JSTI and others were responsible for the overall design of the overpass, according to an audit result document published by Wuxi Audit Bureau on its website in 2007, National Business Daily reported.

JSTI designed the National Highway 312's A section, but the accident occurred on the B section, the firm demonstrated in pictures in its statement.
