(Yicai Global) May 7 -- Chinese moving company Lalamove, or Huolala, has terminated one of its contract drivers following a complaint from internet-famous customers that he charged CNY5,400 (USD761) off book to help them transport goods just 1.2 kilometers away.

The Shenzhen-based firm has also issued a refund to the pair who were moving the items, it said on Weibo yesterday alongside an apology.

Weibo users I’m FancyWang and Chuan Dafa, both of whom have over a million followers, shared a video online on May 4 detailing their complaint. The driver was unable to enter their new community and so had to carry goods by foot 200 meters, for which he charged CNY5 (71 US cents) per meter for each round trip, telling the couple that if they were unwilling to pay he could leave the items by the roadside for them to carry themselves.

The driver, surnamed Dou, seriously violated Lalamove guidelines, the company said, adding that it has banned him from the platform for life. It will begin prioritizing orders for drivers with greater experience and ratings and remind users to pay for services only through the app.

Founded in 2013, Lalamove offers moving services in 286 cities in China and 9 in Southeast Asia, India and South America. It has 440,000 monthly active drivers and 6 million monthly active users.
