(Yicai Global) Aug. 10 -- Many netizens said on social media today that they could not unlock Mobike Technology Co.'s shared bicycles in several major Chinese cities. Mobike followed up and said that its automatic unlocking system malfunctioned, affecting its services during the morning rush hour.

Sina Weibo users from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen and Zhengzhou said that they were unable to use Mobike this morning. Some of them tried to contact customer service to no avail.

Mobike said that the issue has been handled and service has been restored. The bike sharing company didn't give details on the cause of the failure.

Tencent Holdings Ltd. [HK:0700], Hillhouse Capital Group and Sequoia Capital Operations, LLC have backed Mobike, which operates more than 6 million bikes in over 150 cities.
